Dr Tyron Love is a Senior Lecturer in Management in the Department of Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship and is the Associate Dean (Māori) in the School of Business and Economics at the University of Canterbury. Tyron has Māori (Indigenous New Zealand) tribal affiliations to Te Atiawa (Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington) and has New Zealand Pākehā (non-Indigenous) ancestry. He is a member of the European Group for Organization Studies and the Academy of Management (Critical Management Studies and Research Methods divisions). Tyron’s research is not focussed on any particular area or division but his interests are in the conversations around Indigenous methodologies and critical organizational research although not exclusively. Tyron’s research has been published in Accounting, Accountability and Auditing Journal, the Journal of Corporate Citizenship, Media International Australia, and Public Relations Inquiry.
Tyron is focussed on supporting Indigenous organisation-focussed research students and building Indigenous organisation research in schools of business. In 2017 Tyron is supervising four Māori, one Pacific and three international PhD students. He is interested in building international networks and would like to hear from any students or faculty working, or planning to work, in the Indigenous organisation research space – whether the researcher identifies as Indigenous and/or non-Indigenous.
Tyron currently co-teaches the first year management course, MGMT100 Fundamentals of Management, at the University of Canterbury with Sanna Malinen and Herb deVries. He is also the coordinator of MPAC606 Management on the Masters of Professional Development degree programme. In the past, Tyron has coordinated business social responsibility and international management courses as well as public relations and communications subjects in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Tyron is a trained primary school teacher having taught in West London between 2000 and 2002 before returning to university to study management in 2003. He held governance positions on the boards of Philanthropy New Zealand and Volunteering New Zealand whilst teaching at Massey University between 2005 and 2009. His PhD was conferred by Massey University in 2012 whilst teaching at Murdoch University in Western Australia. Tyron started at the University of Canterbury in September 2013.
