My research examines the interface between business and the natural environment. It spans across a range of topics such as firm’s barriers to implementation of voluntary management schemes, studies into corporate social responsibility and business ethics.  More recently I have explored various aspects of standardization, namely the development of voluntary regulations such as social responsibility guidance standard ISO 26000, and aspects of adoption of standards at firm level. I have been especially interested in the assessment of voluntary policy instruments such as ecolabels and the use of sustainability indicators. My work has been published in leading international peer-reviewed journals including Journal of Business Ethics, MIT Sloan Management Review, International Journal of Production Economics, and in engineering journals such as Journal of Cleaner Production.

I have delivered keynote addresses and received several best paper awards and have also received several funding grants (for example, NZ Royal Society International Mobility Grant (2011), Lincoln University Research Fund (2013, 2008), NZOQ (2008).  To date I have supervised 16 postgraduate students to completion.

I teach sustainability, business and sustainability, business ethics, and international management. In 2011, I was nominated by students for Green teaching award.

Outside of university, I served as New Zealand nominated expert on Social Responsibility 2005-2010, ISO/TMB/WG SR Committee responsible for the development of ISO 26000 - international guidance standard on social responsibility. I have served as a NZ nominated expert for the development of international guidance standard ISO 26000 on social responsibility within ISO/TMB/WG SR Committee group(2005-2010). I have also been a member of BARDsNet and various professional societies.
