New From FOLPI

This option allows a new problem to be defined using data contained in files formatted for use with another forest estate modelling program FOLPI. These FOLPI formatted data files commonly have a .dat suffix. Selecting the New From FOLPI option will display a form similar to the figure shown to the right.

This form allows the user to create a new LOG Data File as well as a new LOG Problem File. The ‘Save As’ button opens a window that allows the user to specify a file name and location for the appropriate LOG Data or Problem file.

Once 'OK' is pressed Temporary Databases are created for the LOG data file and the LOG problem file.

New From LOG

This option allows for a new problem to be defined using data contained in a pre-existing LOG Data File. Selecting New From LOG will open a screen similar to that in the figure below. The first part of this form allows for the LOG Data File to be located and opened using the ‘Browse’ button. Selecting ‘Save As’ in the second section of the New From LOG form opens a window that allows the user to create a new LOG Problem File. The user will need to specify a filename and location for this file.

Once 'OK' is pressed Temporary Databases are created for the LOG data file and the LOG problem file.

Open Problem and Data

With the current version of LOG there are now two possibilities for opening a problem file, either the user can open both problem and data files, or the user can just open a problem file. The first option is used to open a pre-existing LOG problem for which LOG Data and LOG Problem Files have already been created but are not currently loaded. The second option assumes that the data wanting to be used for the problem file about to be loaded is already in use. On selecting the option to open both data and problem files, the following screen will appear.

This window allows for the user to browse for and open the desired LOG Data and Problem files using the appropriate ‘Browse’ buttons. Press ‘OK’ once the desired files are displayed or ‘Cancel’ to return to the LOG Introduction Screen.

Once 'OK' is pressed Temporary Databases are created for the LOG data file and the LOG problem file.

Open Problem*

When the option to load only a problem file is selected, the following screen appears.

This window allows for the user to browse for the desired LOG Problem file by using the ‘Browse’ button. Press ‘OK’ once the desired file is displayed or ‘Cancel’ to return to the LOG Introduction Screen.

Once 'OK' is pressed a Temporary Database is created for the  LOG problem file. LOG then brings up a LOG summary screen.

Save Data

This option will save the current LOG Data File. This function can also be performed at any stage while in LOG by holding [CTRL] and pressing [D].

Save Data As

This option will also save the current LOG Data File, but allows for a new filename or location to be specified for the data file.

Save Problem

This option will save the current LOG Problem File. This function can also be performed at any stage while in LOG by holding [CTRL] and pressing [S].

Save Problem As

This option will allow for saving of the current LOG Problem File to a different file name. This works slightly differently to LOG 1.01, where the problem file has to be saved after the Save As option was specified.  It can be accessed at any stage while in LOG by [CTRL] and [A].

Exit

Selecting this option will close the LOG program.

Solver

Selecting this option will allow for the file path for AMPL and the LP solver to be changed. The solver item can be found under the options menu. Note that a password is required to ensure that only authorised users are able to make these changes.
