Clearfell Ages

The clearfell ages screen is used to define the minimum and maximum clearfelling (CF) ages for each croptype.

In the first box under the title ‘Periods’ enter the first year the clearfell specifications apply for and in the second box enter the final year. Alternatively, selecting the “All Years” check box will mean that the clearfell specification applies over the entire length of the planning horizon.

The clearfell ages screen in LOG is shown below.

Periods

Every croptype must be assigned minimum and maximum clearfell ages for all periods otherwise it will not be cut for those periods that are left unspecified.

It is necessary to specify the period range for which each set of minimum and maximum clearfelling ages apply.

Category

This option defines what items will be included in the adjacent Croptype Range. Such that it defines whether the items in the Croptype Range list will be individual croptypes or classes of croptypes, for example, ‘Origin’ or ‘Species’ attributes.

Croptype Range

Depending on what is selected in the Category field, a range of croptypes or attribute names will be available in the Croptype Range list.

Using the mouse, highlight the desired croptype ranges for which the current clearfell specification is to apply. To select consecutive items in the list, click the first item, press and hold down the [SHIFT] key and click the last item. To select non-consecutive items, press and hold [CTRL] and click each item.

Min CF Age

The minimum clearfelling age specifies the age for which a particular croptype must be, before it can be harvested.

Max CF Age

The maximum clearfelling age is necessary to restrict the size of the LOG problem. Stands that reach the maximum clearfelling age in the model are felled automatically if possible.

Note that maximum clearfelling ages should be set high enough that there is sufficient flexibility in the model in the management of mature stands and low enough that problem size is not unnecessarily large. The maximum clearfell ages in the first period also need to be equal or higher than the ages of the appropriate current stands.

It is also necessary that minimum clearfell ages be less than or equal to the corresponding maximum clearfell ages.

Add

Add the associated clearfelling specifications to the model.

Update

If the information in a particular clearfelling specification changes after the specification has been added to the model using the Add button, the appropriate Update button can be used to update the information in the model.

Remove

If the information in a particular clearfelling specification changes after the specification has been added to the model using the Add button, the appropriate Update button can be used to update the information in the model.

Error Checks*

The latest version of LOG now includes error checks on all inputs. This means that all fields need to have appropriate entries before the addition to the model is added. If there is something missing, or something in the wrong form, then a message is shown that prompts the user to remedy the situation.
