ANZCA 2005 CONFERENCE

 

COMMUNICATION AT WORK
1. The 2005 conference theme is Communication at Work: Showcasing communication scholarship.
2. The location is Christchurch, New Zealand, “The Garden City”.
3. The dates are 4 to 7 July 2005.
4. Your host is the Management Department, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.

CONFERENCE VENUE
The conference will be held at The Arts Centre in the Centre of Christchurch surrounded by heritage buildings, the Botanic Gardens, Canterbury Museum with easy access to central city shopping, restaurants, cafes, night clubs and bars. You will be spoilt for choice.

 

The Arts Centre takes up an entire city block bounded by Worcester Boulevard, Rolleston Avenue, Hereford Street and Montreal Street. The conference is being held in buildings that are at the Rolleston Avenue end of the complex. CLICK HERE to the Arts Centre Map

 

PARKING

All day parking is available at two Christchurch City Council parking buildings. The first is alongside Rydges Hotel (5 minutes walk from the conference venue). The second is under the new Christchurch Art Gallery (2 minutes walk from the conference venue). There are parking areas beside the YMCA and the YHA Hostel across the road from the venue but these are pay by the hour and often full.

 

REGISTRATION will be in the Foyer of the Southern Ballet facility.

THE REGISTRATION DESK opens at 10.00 am on 4 July in the foyer of the Southern Ballet at the Arts Centre in central Christchurch. To reach the Southern Ballet go down Worcester Boulevard nearly to the end where it meets Rolleston Avenue. On your left is a covered entrance into the heart of the Art Centre. Walk through this into a quadrangle and the Southern Ballet foyer is about 20 metres to your left at the north western corner by a shallow pond.

 

THE WELCOME commences in the Great Hall at 1.00 pm. The Great Hall is on the corner of Rolleston Avenue and Worcester Boulevard. Access is via the same quadrangle as the Southern Ballet foyer.

 

THE FIRST PAPER PRESENTATIONS commence at 2.00 pm following the welcome and continue through until mid-afternoon on Thursday 7th July.

 

THE FORMAL RECEPTION commences at 6.30 pm on the 4th July.

 

THE CONFERENCE DINNER is on the evening of Wednesday 6th July commencing at 7.00 pm.

 

THE CONFERENCE CLOSES at approximately 4.00 pm on Thursday 7th July.

Full-time Student Evidence required* $200.00

 

*Those enrolling at the discounted student rate need to send a confirmatory note from their tertiary institution confirming that they are enrolled as a full-time student. This note can be faxed or emailed to the Conference office (See the contact details at the end of the registration pages).

 

The Reception on 4 July costs $45 and Conference Dinner costs $75.

ACCOMMODATION
There are choices to suit everyone from 5 star Hotels to Backpacker accommodation all within walking distance of the conference venue. See Accommodation for details about accommodation choices close to the venue.

 

Rydges Hotel and the YMCA are the official conference accommodation providers.

 

HOW TO GET THERE
The Christchurch International Airport is very close to the centre of the city with regular flights from other NZ centres, the three major cities on the east coast of Australia and Singapore.

 

STAYING A FEW DAYS?
Consider:-
• A visit to the Southern Lakes District including skiing and snowboarding, bungy jumping, jet boating, rafting, great scenery and excellent wine tasting.
• A three day trip to Marlborough which includes whale watching in Kaikoura, more wine tasting in Blenheim and sea kayaking in the Marlborough Sounds.
• A one or two day rail trip across the Southern Alps to the wild West Coast.
• A day trip to a musket pa on Onawe Peninsula on the way to the beautiful French village of Akaroa on Banks Peninsula.
• Mountain biking and walking on the Port Hills.
